Is IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) legally recognised as a disability in the UK? |
Is IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) legally recognised as a disability in the UK? In terms of being registered disabled then no it is not covered so no disabled badge/mobility allowance etc. However, it might be covered under the Disability Discrimination Act as that defines a disability as any medically diagnosed condition present for at least 12 months or more. This means your employers can not discriminate against you for this condition if you have told them that you have it. So for example, if you were spending a lot of time in the toilet (which happens) then your employers could not take action against you if this was down to your IBS and you had already notified your personnel department that you had been diagnosed with it and had had it for over 12 months. Source(s): Disability Discrimination Act Probably not. You're not actually disabled - just miserable every now and then. Im not sure, but if it affects your work and well being i think it should. IBS totally sucks been there doing it no, fraid not but it is curable, good luck no |
