Peppermint Capsules for Irritable Bowel Syndrome?


I have IBS and I read an article about people using natural Peppermint Capsules as a treatment option! Has anyone used this? And if so, does it really work?

peppermint is known as having a calming effect on the stomach and gut lining and may give some comfort to the irritation that you are experiencing, this alone will not alleviate your problem.

Some of the causes of IBS are - stress, anxiety, GUT immune dysfunction, lactose or gluten sensitivity (e.g. you could try cutting out dairy or wheat) and lack of fibre.
Some of the treatments are taking a good probiotic, a good B Vitamin complex and try a powdered form of magnesium.
Avoid excessive caffeine, fat, sugars and alcohol. Also drink plenty of water.

I have IBS. I haven't tried that treatment. And I would not try it.
Peppermint irritates your bowels. I don't understand why anyone would claim that peppermint would work. It's better for mild gas.
I've eaten one peppermint sweet once, and it's set off cramps in my abdomen.

It works for some,not for others,the only way to test whether it will help you is to try it.I recommend you try Enzymatic therapies peppermint because its encapsulated and least likely to give you heart burn,peppermint oil can be too strong for some people.You can also experiment with drinking peppermint tea.
Other good supplements for Ibs,Probiotics,gluccomannen fiber,and Ginger tea.

Actually I was told by a doctor that peppermint tea was good for IBS. I don't know about the tablets though. Good luck
