How are you being treated for IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) ? |
I am 28 and have suffered from it for 13years and have not found a dr that thinks i'm "old enuf" or "bad enuf" Would love to see them live a day in my shoes... So I was just wondering, what options are out there for treatment. I've used Imodium and Maalox etc... But don't seem to last longer then an hr and arn't always effective. I can't bare to leave the house without knowing there will be a washroom at my convience at any given time. Any advice would be great! Thanks in advance Dicetal is one of the medication that can help relieve some of the symptoms.Try to stay away from hot spicy food. I know that it is boring eating a bland diet ,but it might keep you away from the IBS symptoms.Stress is a trigger,so try not to get too stressed out over things.Following a healthy diet, getting at least 7-8 hours sleep and engage in some form of exercise will help in controlling the symptoms. have you seen a gastroenterologist? I saw one about your age and he ordered all the usual tests, made the diagnosis and gave me a prescription for Bentyl. The Bentyl works quite well for me. That and I have learned over time what triggers an attack and avoid such foods like the plague. And I drink at least two liters of water every day. RN keep in mind that ibs is one of the symptoms related to celiac disease, where there are symptoms like IBS, chronic fatigue, and mood swings. There is a blood test they can run for the antibodies. CHron's is another situation where you can't leave the house at times. So, I'd go to the GI to make sure there is not something else going on. my wife and her friend are both 50 and suffer from ibs. I suggesdted metamucel course texture in some oj everyday and it has done wonders for them both. start with ateaspoon or less until you see how your body reacts. make sure you get the coarse texture. See if you Dr will let you try Leahy's #3 It's a phenobarbital (sp) mix It was the only thing that helped me for many years Later I developed a Vit B-12 problem, now that I get B-12 shots I don't have an IBS problem Not exactly sure of the connection, Just know that it works for me I recommend all natural Optiflora. It actually will start treating the cause and not just the symptoms. It's a two-product system that includes Probiotic (Bifidus & Acidophilus...microflora) + Prebiotic (FOS...food source for microflora). Due to its patented encapsulation method, it guarantees delivery of 500 million microflora to intestines. It's very effective in treating IBS and perfectly safe for all ages with no side effects. Also, it's been shown that Stomach Soothing Complex helps many enormously and lessened the anxiety of needing to locate a bathroom. Hope this is helpful and feel free to contact me with questions. |
