Is there a under/over the counter cure/prescription for IBS? (Irritable Bowel Syndrome)? |
Just wondering; is the only ONE way to cure it by going on a strict diet of High Fiber, and low-stress, or if already doing so, is there a better and useful way of getting a medicine for it....Any help would be much appreciated! I have IBS and wasted money on an upper and lower GI. My doctor said to just take Imodium. (anti diareah meds) Take 3 or more at a time. There are prescription drugs but my doctor said since I haven't hit my 30's yet take it because once I go on the prescription I will have to be on it for life. Also avoid foods with high fat content. Part of IBS is that your body is not capable of breaking down fats and it leaves you gassy and running to the bathroom... Also cut down on the size of your meals. Symptoms can be eased my eating smaller meals more often. The sad thing there is no cure, just relief. according to my medical brochures. Source(s): My LIFE!!! is a "cure"- try it for a few days ,see if there is a difference -mix a teaspoon of natural apple cider vinegar(NOT distilled white) with a teaspoon of honey in a glass of warm water(filtered, pure) before each meal and again before bed.stop taking antiacids such as tums. You can ask you doctor about Zelnorm, I tried it but it did not work for me. Some people just have slow or sensitive systems. they have zelmnorm if you are constipated but i find the best thing that works is going a low dose antidepressant called elavil. nothing else worked for me. it took me about 4 weeks to feel better on elavil and i've been pretty good for five years. good luck i know how hard it is to have it. There are meds for it as well as enzymes you can purchase from the health food store. I prefer the last it seems to work the best along with a watchful diet...Good luck |
