IBS - Irritable Bowel Syndrome - does anyone take Colafac? |
Been through hell the last few months. Everything i was eating was going right through me. Constant diarrhea, bloating, cramps. Sometimes i couldn't even stand up straight because of the pain. Kept away from a few foods, as they use to trigger the pain and diarrhea. Ended up losing 10kg, put most of it back on. Was eating really healthy, then i discovered that i can eat more food, so i stopped eating healthy. Sometimes the healthy food wasn't healping at all. Now the dihorrea has turned to constipation. Still getting the cramps. The doctor gave me a prescription for colafac, don't know much about it. Does it work? Does it have any side effects? IBS will and can switch back and forth between diarrhoea and constipation. Honestly, and I am an MD who has had IBS since med school, 15 years, and the best cure for both diarrhoea and constipation is, prevention. 1. Avoid fatty foods, carbonated drinks, and caffeine as they contribute to the cramping. 2. Drink at least 8 glasses of water per day. 3. Eat fresh fruit and vegetables as the fibre helps. 4. Eat small meal and eat frequently, avoid having large big meals. 5. A diet with lots of rice and pasta is good, but not sugary carbs. 6. De-caf ginger tea reduces the inflammation. I drink 3 to 4 cups a day. 7. Do not use laxatives. I used the meds years ago and they really didn't do alot for me. I haven't used them in 10 years and have had only a few flare-ups and always when I am stressed and have my period. Good luck. I'd recommend that you read Self Healing Colitis and Crohn's. By David Klein, PhD. He recommends fixing the problem via soft vegetarian foods. I was also a sufferer wtih diarrhea, bloating, cramps, low grade fever. This book has changed my life forever. |
