Liposuction ?? |
Tomorrow I have an appointment for a consultation about liposuction. I am not overweight, but have stubborn little side bulges that the gym cannot rectify. Anyone with experience about the procedure and results? I too had stubborn areas that diet and exercise just couldn't get rid of, so in October (2006) I had liposuction of my flanks & inner/outer thighs. The only regret I have is that I did not do it sooner! Contrary to popular belief, liposuction is not a "weight-loss surgery", but a surgical approach to removing/reducing pockets of fat ("bulges") that diet and exercise will not rectify. If you are within 15-20lbs of your ideal weight and have these pockets of fat and are in good physical health, you too may be a good candidate for liposuction. My procedure was considered Power-Assisted and Ultrasonic Liposuction and was performed in an outpatient settting under general anesthesia. For the areas I had lipo'd, the surgery took approx 1.5 hours. After the procedure they dressed me with a compression garment (which has to be worn for approx 4-6 weeks to aid in healing) and gave my support person (my husband) all of the post-operative instructions. For post-op care, they had me take oral antibiotics (I actually started this the day before, took the day of, and one day after), and homeopathic supplements to aid with bruising and swelling. I was also prescribed a pain medication which helped greatly - especially for the first 24-48 hours. All in all, the procedure itself was really not nearly as painful as I expected. I had to sleep with my legs propped up under two pillows for about 6 weeks to aid with swelling reduction (I was pretty swollen - primarily because I work on my feet), but despite the swelling, I could already see an improvement. With each passing week as the bruising and swelling subsided, I got more and more excited and could NOT believe how I looked (and still look!). I also decided to have Endermologie treatments (which many plastic surgery facilities offer) to help aid in fluid reduction as well as further body contouring (it helps smooth out skin/tissue - feels like a full body massage with suction). The Endermologie treatments were a sort of "shrink-wrapping" after my surgery. They really helped me heal quicker and made my body and skin more compact and tight. Now I am 5 months post-op and look great! If you are a candidate, I would highly recommend it. Your best bet is to have several consultations with board-certified cosmetic surgeons. Do your research and find a reputable surgeon in your area that you feel comfortable with. Remember, a lot of the time (especially with cosmetic surgery) you get what you pay for, so "cheaper" is definately not always better! Many cosmetic surgeons actually offer complimentary consultations, so getting several opinions may not even cost you a dime. Go with your gut. Evaluate the whole office - physician, nurses, even front office staff - is says a lot about a practice. I hope I was able to answer all of your questions! ;) Source(s): Liposuction patient and a Medical Assistant at a plastic surgery facility. Liposuction drug makes you thin by cutting off blood supply to fat cells in overweight people It's better than liposuction, researchers say: it's a drug that cuts off the blood supply to fat cells, causing subjects to lose an astounding 30% of their body weight in just one month.
