Is liposuction a permanent change, or does it wear off in awhile?

If a thing and NOT overweight person decided to pursue liposuction, would that be a permanent procedure or would you eventually gain all the fat tissue back? For people who are in shape and just want to "sculpt" a piece of their body, does this work as a solution?

According to some experts, liposuction does not result in permanent fat removal; however, others believe that fat removal is permanent. Liposuction is still a relatively new cosmetic procedure that selectively removes fat from the body. Considering the dearth of scientific research on the long-term success of liposuction, due to the high cost and difficulties of conducting such research, the debate will likely continue for some time.

The long-term outcomes that we do know of, have been based on anecdotal information rather than hard science. These anecdotes appear to indicate that anything can happen after liposuction: some people have been able to maintain the changes without any fat growth or regrowth; other individuals have had partial growth/regrowth; and, still others have had complete growth/regrowth, with some even gaining in excess of their pre-liposuction fat amounts. (Alice makes the distinction between growth and regrowth of fat because it remains unclear whether or not the replacement of fat is a growth of new fat, or a regrowth of existing fat.) Furthermore, various short-term animal and human studies have demonstrated that liposuction does not effectively help to control weight. Multiple factors, including gender, age, and, possibly, lifestyle and genetic factors, have more of an impact on weight control. With all of these individual-specific variables to consider, there really is no straight and easy answer to your question. Alice believes it is more important for you to know that liposuction will not guarantee a prevention of weight gain or weight regain. Furthermore, liposuction, or any kind of surgical removal of fat cells, only removes very few fat cells (<10%) relative to the large number in the body.....
You would get the fat back if you do not change your diet.
its helps...temporarily b/c but we all get old while we're still breathing, like it or not
It's permanent as you lose the fat cells in that area. So if you gained weight it would go somewhere else so you'd have to be careful not to end up a strange shape...

I think it can be good for 'sculpting' but of course you'd have to consult with a reputable surgeon first.
it's an expensive solution that carries a lot of risks, and the fat usually does eventually return.
I have a sister who uses plastic surgery to improve herself and she has to get lipo every-so-often because it is not permanent however she does not exercise... im sure if you exercise the areas you get lipoed you wouldnt have a problem and wouldnt have to get it again
The body has the ability to increase fat cells and once it has done that they stay forever. When you loose weight the number of cells remains the same they are just smaller so that's part of the reason obese people sometimes have a hard time keeping weight off, the cells are there just waiting to blow up again. Liposuction does remove some of the fat cells but the body can generate more. It cannot be used to "sculpt" as it isn't that definitive of a procedure. The "suction" part of that means the fat is sucked out from under the skin. It would be better to exercise for toning.
