Anyone had liposuction? Local or general anesthesia? |
I am considering lipo just for a couple areas (hips and thighs) I have heard of people doing under just a local anesthetic (numbing) But that seems a little scary. Anyone had it? Suggestions? Thank you. Although there are several types of anesthesia, not all surgeons and their practices will offer every one. Some surgeons do, however, offer each - although be aware that many surgeons to harbor a preference. The four main categories of anesthesia are: 1.local anesthesia 2.regional anesthesia 3. sedation 4. general anesthesia (GA) I. Local Anesthesia Here is a good read for you to learn about your options: http://liposuction4you.com/anesthesia.ht... Liposuction surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her breast reduction, tummy tuck and facelift surgery in India by the company called Tour2india4health Consultants .The Price for the surgery she paid in India was very less. She paid 30% of the cost she was quoted in America. Tour2india4health Consultants is very famous in India. They arrange cosmetic and plastic surgery for foreigners in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low price, as the breast reduction, tummy tuck, facelift and other cosmetic surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star. http://www.tour2india4health.com... Hope this helps. The surgery you are talking about is body lift surgery, which means you are going to have the surgery on your abdominal, thighs, buttocks, and hips. you can choose to have it in just some of these areas but this is what body lift surgery include. The surgery takes about 10 hours and is performed usually under general anesthesia. You can read more about it here: http://www.plastic-surgery-information.o... You should talk to your surgeon about the anesthesia issue and ask him also about the risks. Hope this helps - Good luck! Liposuction is typically done with a tumescent local anesthetic - large volumes of dilute solution of numbing medicine and epinephrine (to decrease bleeding) are injected into the fatty areas to be suctioned. You'll get that whether or not you go to sleep. I had a small area lipo'd with just the numbing - no sedation. It was pretty uncomfortable, and I have a high pain tolerance. It's not a gentle procedure, and you can feel every little movement, even if it doesn't hurt much. It hurt quite a bit for the next few days (I was surprised, but I needed something stronger than Tylenol) and felt bruise-y for about 2 weeks. If deep sedation or general is offered, I'd recommend it. I'm an anesthesiologist, and I work with a plastic surgeon. http://www.medicalminutepodcast.com... |
