What can I do to help my dad who has lung cancer? |
I want to give him the best possible chance of recovery Hi, I agree with everything Tif says to you. Also, make sure he goes on his appt's and takes his medicines. I have cancer, and I hate to go to the doctor or for any testing. My family keeps on me to take good care. Also - make him laugh, if you can. they try to keep things normal and upbeat for me. Love is the best medicine of all. It keeps me going. Just knowing there are people that love me and want me alive. Good luck to you and your dad. Take care. I totally agree with all the previous answers. My mum has recently been diagnosed with lung cancer and has secondary brain tumours and unfortunately her cancer is terminal, she was given just 2 weeks to live back in January 2008 and she is still doing well. This is amazing but we as a family make sure that she is well cared for, her medication is taken and good diet is catered for also, but most of all a lot of positive thinking and lots of love. I wish your dad well and hope that you get through this. My mother passed away from lung/brain cancer in November of 2007. The best thing you can do to ensure your dad has the best possible chance for recovery is to ensure that he has the best medical treatment you can get. Always get a second opinion, and a third, and a fourth...as many as you feel you need. Don't be afraid to ask the doctors as many questions as you need to, and make sure they explain things to you in a way that's easy for you to understand. All that was listed is very good, and right. I'd like to add a few more things, make sure he continues to eat well, I was told not to lose any weight while going through my chemo and radiation treatment. They will give him medication for nausea, he'll need it, it works really well also. He may or may not develop constipation or diahrea, if he's constipated, get him some Senna or Sennacot, and you know what to do for the other. I hope and pray that he makes a full and complete recovery. Be good to each other. Keep smiling even though it's hard. Be there for him, to do anything he can't. Find out what is the best treatment for a man of his age with his type of lung cancer. And good luck! |
