My mum's just been diagnosed with lung cancer but only after weeks of illness and we need to build her up! |
She's been poorly for a while and has lost a lot of weight - her appetite ain't great for a number of reasons. We're trying to build her strength up before treatment can begin - she was only diagnosed this week so we're not sure what's what yet. Does anyone have any views of supplements like Nurishment or Build-Up drinks in the context. Any suggestions gratefully received! Thank you. If you are in UK and an NHS patient then you can get supplements free of charge. Ask for Fortimel. These are different flavoured milk shakes. High protein nutritional supplements. Three a day would be good. The NHS will supply as many as she needs. Best of luck. Thanks to everyone for your help - I'm off on a mission to get this sorted! Thanks again - really appreciated. Report Abuse Strong marijuana brownies eaten four times per day. does she like milk?if she does then several mugs of milky coffee will build her up.i am having the same problem, last year i was treated for throat cancer and the treatment has left me unable to eat.i now have a peg tube in my stomach that gets attached to a machine that feeds nutrients into me.its a slow process but maybe when she feels like eating again she will gain some weight. There's a drink called 'ensure plus' which is a milkshake style protein drink available on prescription and is ideal for building people up and it also contains all vitamins and nutrients needed, you'll probably find the doctor will recommend three a day. As well as filling you up they also boost your metabolism which boosts your appetite ok i want to tell you something ,,now okay, first dont let her eat junkfood or drink soda, whatever the kind was. itss not healthy at all. My mother was ill and needed building up also.....she was given FORTISIP and CALOGEN......few weeks down the line she had piled the weight on....ask your doc about that. Hi,sorry about your mam.Go to boots they sell everything & will advise you on whats best to buy.Hope your mam gets better. Ensure is what my dad had to drink. Ensure is the usual way to go. buy her a tonic like sanatogan and pray bless her my prayers are with you all |
