My mom has newly discovered nodules on her lungs. Can this be cancer? Please answer! ? |
My mother is 66 years old, and has unfortunately smoked for over 50 years. So I guess this is a pretty redundant question. Still I just need an educated guess, preferably from someone in the health care profession. I hope you and your other family members are smart enough not to smoke. I just went through a similar situation. I had pneumonia twice in the past year, the latest being in April. I had to have a chest xray about a month after the pneumonia, and my doctor saw 2 small nodules in my lungs. He ordered a CT scan, then I had to have a biopsy last week. I was scared to death as I smoked for over 25 years. Thank the Lord they were not cancerous. He said the nodules were like granulous and most likely caused from fungus or other infections (like the pneumonia). Hopefully, her doctor will follow through and do another CT scan and/or a biopsy. Then you will know. Please tell her to quit smoking, too. It's hard. I know from experience. Good luck. I know exactly how you are feeling! It's not necessarily cancer, though with her history of smoking she is at high risk for it. The nodules could be something we call blebs, which are not cancerous. I hope her doctor is following up on the CAT scan findings, especially since she already has irreversible lung disease. I just visited a website to tell you what it was, i got a very good explaination. unfortunatly the explaination was way to long to write here, the website was http://nonsmalllungcancer.com |
