Diagnosed with LUNG CANCER ?

My dad's best friends mother, who is in her 80's was just diagnoesed, having cancer in her lymph nodes and lungs. She, has decided that she has lived her life long enough, and would rather have a few good weeks than a few months that are bad. Therefore she will not be taking treatment.
Does anyone know on average without treatment, her age factor, and both cancers, how long she can fight? (before this cancer takes her)??
????

She has been sick for a few months now, and thought she jsut had a cold, then the dr. treated her for Pneumonia, here she never even had Pneumonia.
She has it pretty bad!! It is progressing fast, and they found 3 masses on her lungs.

First of all statistics can't predict the prognosis for any individual, only the odds. Secondly, it depends what type of lung cancer she has and at what stage. There are 2 basic types of lung cancer, Non-small cell and small cell. You need to know which type and which stage to get the prognosis.

Here's some info on lung cancer prognosis. http://www.medicinenet.com/lung_cancer/p... But if you look up her type of lung cancer and the word "prognosis" you'll get more information.

Obviously with advanced age, no treatment, health going down hill, and metastases, her prognosis is worse than someone in an earlier stage of the disease.

My neighbor was diagnosed in February with renal cancer. She worked for the local high school and wanted to wait till the end of the year to do treatment, as it was her last year and she wa retiring. Unfortunately she became very ill over the Easter holiday break. she started treatment, had 2 rounds, but lost her battle at the end of May. She was 75.
It sounds as though your family friend is at the end of her journey. It could be days, a few weeks or maybe a couple of months. It's very unpredictable. However my father was told he had only a few weeks to live and wound up living another 3 years. My son was not to live through the night and is now in remission. The point is, is that every person fights as hard as they can, but when it's time, they know, and sometimes living your life as you want is better than fighting in pain.

Oh :( I am so sorry..She is in my prayers. My dad's friend died in the summer with lung cancer. He didn't have any treatment either. He was diagnosed in early July and died in Early August. A month.
It is sad..but I agree with her. It is better to have a good few weeks than suffering. It just depends on how much she could take the pain. Again, I am so sorry. Tell your friend she is in my prayers.

Yes, it could happen anytime... i mean My Art teacher, who had Pancreatic cancer passed away yesterday morning... and he had been in horrible condition... i actually agree with not taking any treatment, but sometimes its hard to sit there and do nothing...

It could happen in a week, tomorrow, in a month, heck even a year... theres too much to really tell...

God Bless!

not much but at least she lived a long life and if she wants 2 rest in peace well i guess she has the right 2 but she could still live longer if she tried, which i would do

Hey Angel, Sorry to hear the bad news, but if no treatment is given cancers like that attack the body pretty swiftly , you cannot estimate when could be 2 weeks 2 mths ??????? who knows , only god does.

she could live a few more weeks or monts or even years
my mom knowed some one that hade cancer
the doctor told her she would only live for 7 weeks
she lived for 7 more years or maby it was 1/2/3 year

It all depends man. There are way too many variables in this equation, and it all depends on her immune system, as well as how far in the stages of cancer she is.

It could happen anytime!

On average, a few weeks. It's in your question.

im so sorry to hear this!
