Can i have lung cancer? |
Im not a regular smoker. I smoke one or two cigarettes each week, if i even smoke any. I've had a cough and cold for a few weeks now, and it's not seeming to go away. This might be because during the time I've been sick I've been outside in the cold weather and have had a few cigarettes. I don't think i have a family history of lung cancer, but I'm not sure because not too many people in my family smoke. My chest hurts sometimes, but i think that might be from the coughing. Can anyone tell me if this is lung cancer? when you smoke you are damaging your lungs and that makes it harder to get rid of coughs and cold. smoking also depletes your vitamin c levels in your body. some people smoke all their lives and they are fine and die of something not related to smoking, some can smoke a couple of years and get lung cancer. if you are predisposed to get it, you will get it. if you are that worried, then quite smoking now. for good. sounds like the cough is getting you down. good luck Nobody here can tell you as it's not possible to make such a diagnosis on this page. Having said that, given your history it would be unlikely to be cancer -- a persistent virus is more probable. I'd suggest that you stop being even an occasional smoker. Tobacco addiction is quite insidious and you could find that you're hooked almost without knowing it until you are deprived of a cigarette. Very very unlikely. You could have a chest infection yes maybe, or a touch of bronchitis, but I just don't believe it's cancer. Being stupid myself I smoked for many many years, and did have many chest infections, bronchitis and pneumonia. I stopped 2 years ago, reason was I was diagnosed with CPLD, means I don't have very good air capacity in my lungs which has actually greatly improved since I stopped smoking but sometimes still feel a bit breathless. But you don't want to know this, I suggest if the cough doesn't soon stop see your Doctor. In the meantime, drink some Honey in a squeezed lemon warm before going to bed a few nights, that loosens and the cough will go away. but please don't think it's cancer Someone can tell you .... your Doctor ... if you have a concern, have it checked out. You don't have to be a smoker to develope CA. I doubt it very much. Probably just a virus that is sticking around for awhile. |
