On average, how long will someone with stage 4 lung cancer live?

My grandma was just diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and I know she won't recover from this so how long do you think she will live? The doctors said about a year but she could live 5 years...

I am so sorry of your Grandma's diagnoses. Trying to figure out how long a person can live after a lung cancer diagnoses is very difficult to determine. It highly depends how much the cancer has spread and which organs are affected. With me, I was told perhaps one year with treatment, but on May 15, it will be three years since my dx and have had chemo which has likely helped stabilize my cancer. With stage iv lung cancer, only 2% of people live for five years.. at least those are the stats I was told.. its so different for everyone. Often with treatment, people can even go into remission for years.
I wish all the best for your family.
