How long will you live with stage 4 lung cancer? |
How long will you live with stage 4 lung cancer? Nobody can really tell you how long.As stated above,it depends on the type of cancer and the individual.Unfortunatly, stage 4 is a very late stage and the 5 year survival for all types is around 1-3%. It really depends on the tissue type (smallcell lung cancer /squamous /large cell etc) and the degree to which the cancer has spread in the body. If this is small cell lung cancer usually less than 6 months. For others type of lung cancers at stage 4 it can range from a few weeks to 2 years. Your oncologist is the best person to give more details. I am sure you can find something like that out on the internet just go to something like www.ask.com and type that in. But more importantly why don't you ask your doc? If you were diagnosed with something like that then you obviously have one, but if you are looking for a specific time frame then unfortunately you are not going to get one they can only estimate. Everyone is different. And every human body reacts differently to different diseases so there is no way anyone can give you a solid time frame, just an estimated guess and even that can be a little far fetched. It depends on if and where the cancer metasticizes to. My husband was given 3 months to live after the cancer was discovered due to a brain tumor. He lived for 3 years before it returned and ended his life. I have read stories of people surviving much longer. That's why it depends on if, when, and where it returns. Also depends on what can be done about the tumors as they appear. My husband got many all at once in his brain and body and there was nothing they could do. It depends on whether or not you go through treatment anywhere from 4 months to 1 1/2 year. My husband was diagnosed March 20th 2006. He went thru chemo, radiation, gamma knife procedure, and took a drug called tarceva. (it is very expensive but had hadd good results you need to ask about this) Sadly, my love passed June 6th 2006. Spend as much time as you can with the person and let them do whatever they want whenever they want. It is a terrible disease. |
