How did you find out your first had lung cancer? How far along were you? How many years had you smoked? i knew someone who was diagnosed the first part of Jan. and she died Jan. 26, 2005. but she had lung and bone cancer. earlier in 2004, she was diagnosed with lung cancer went through radiation and completed it. that doctors gave her a clean bill of health. so her and her husband went to Fla. to visit family for the holidays. on thanksgiving day she bent over to pick something up and she said she felt a pop in her back. everyone thought it she pulled something. but, the pain kept getting worse, by the time Christmas came, she was in the emergency room 5 - 6 times for the pain and also was in a wheelchair because it hurt her to bad to walk. by the time she was finally "diagnosed" the doctor gave her less than 3 months to live, about 2 - 3 weeks after that, she passed away. she did smoke for a while, but she also quit for a long, long time. so in my opinion your more likely to get cancer if you smoke for a while and then quit then you are if you keep on smoking but maybe cut down. My husband thought he had hurt his back at work. Went to the hospital, was told he had pneumonia and a cracked rob. The pain got worse went back 2 more times. Finally one of the scans showed something. He was admitted into the hospital. He had a tumor on his spine. They did a lung biopsy and took him straight to radiation for the spine. He went thru radiation, chemo, gamma knife procedure for brain tumor, and took a drug called tarceva. He was diagnosed March 20th. He fought a hard fight. By the time he was diagnosed it had spread everywhere. Sadly he passed June 6th. He had smoked for many years. He was only 57 years old. It is a struggle every day just to get up. But I have children so that is why I am still here. If you have lung cancer get treatment asap I wish you good luck. My dad had an automobile accident. Kept having pain in his shoulder from the accident. An x-ray showed that his pain was from a 7cm tumor in his left lung. The tumor was so heavy it had already cracked a rib. He took Chemo and radiation. He lived for almost two years after first diagnosis. He might could have survived longer except he already suffered from cirrhosis of the liver and the chemo just finished off his liver. He was 62. I am 41 with an 8yr old and a 3 yr old. My dad passed away less than 6 months ago and I can hardly imagine having Christmas without him. As much as I love him, and I know he loved me, I still have this unanswered question in my heart: Why didn't he love me enough to quit smoking? He smoked for 40 years. We finally convinced him to stop smoking, then he was diagnosed with cancer about 6 weeks later. Too little, too late. He had smoked 2 to 3 packs per day for 40 years and was able to quit cold turkey. If he had done that when he was much younger, he might still be here to have Christmas with his family. |
