What diet can you recommend for lupus patient?

People with lupus are much more likely to suffer from athersclerosis (hardening of the arteries) and should avoid too many foods high in animal fats. The fats found in cold water fish like salmon are actually helpful in controlling the inflammation of lupus.

Outside of that-
1. Eat a rainbow every day. If you try to eat all the basic colors of fruits and veggies each day you will get a good balance.
2. Eat at least 5 servings of fruits and veggies a day.
3. Avoid processed foods as much as possible.
4. Don't eat junk or fast food except on rare occasions.
5. Avoid alfalfa sprouts. They stimulate the immune system which is just what you DON'T want. There is no "lupus diet" per se that truly works.

Before you put something in your mouth ask yourself, "Will this build health or take away from it?"

Get moderate exercise, too, after asking your doc. Exercise releases endorphins which help reduce pain, improves mood and relieves depression, helps keep the weight and blood presssure down, and lubricates the joints.

People with lupus should limit fat intake to less than 30% of total calories, and may want to avoid substances rich in omega-6 fatty acids including safflower oil, sunflower oil, poppy seed oil, and corn oil, because these fats may exacerbate the disease, according to studies in rodents.

But the omega-3 fatty acids contained in the oils of several fish varieties, including mackerel, tuna, whitefish, and herring, may slow the disease and have an anti-inflammatory effect.
