Lupus "butterfly" rash?

Does it ease up a bit once the person gets out of the sun? It still itches terribly, is raised and pink. But not bright red like it was. I ws dx with FMS some years ago with many other symptoms of SLE. My rheumatologist at the time would not dx lupus without positive blood test even though some patients don't.
I know I need to go back but it will be a while. Haven't seen rheumatologist in 3 years. There has been nothing she could ( or would) do that I was willing to take.

Yes, I know if the sun aggravates it I should stay out of it. Just the sun I get in the car makes me miserable but with 3 kids, 2 of them babies, what else can I do? They have to go certain places.
It doesn;t seem to b other my hands when exposed, but they don;t stay in the sun. Perhaps I just need to find a strong sunscreen and use even if I'm just riding in the car.
Steroids are not an option for me right now.

I think you know what you must doing. I just want to say "Don't Give UP"

it does ease up if u stay out osun , in fact u are suppose to stay out of the sun, steroids are usually prescribed, this should be treated by a reumatoligist, this can be a serious disorder,

UVA and UVB from the sun alter the DNA at the skin's surface. For most people, that just causes aging. For those of us with lupus it is a bigger problem. We make anitbodies to this altered DNA. That's what causes the inflammatory rash. But guess what? That same inflammation in the skin can also end up in your organs as a result of sun exposure! Sunlight can trigger or cause lupus kidney disease to flare.

Check with your driver license bureau to get a permit to put extra dark tint on your car windows. Get at least one good sunprotective shirt and wear long pants, and a hat. I like the stuff at coolibar.com. There are others.

Use a good sunscreen that protects against UVA and UVB.

So you haven't seen the rheumy in 3 years? You are willing to put yourself at risk by being in the sun and even greater risk by not having regular medical care. Loving your children and wanting the best for them means you have to love yourself to make sure you will be around and available to care for them.

Refusing to take care of yourself is not noble, it is actually selfish. Sure you can avoid medical monitoring and care. And sure, you can expose yourself to the sun and all the risks that entails for those of us with lupus. After all, it is expensive to see the doc. And you HAVE to be in the sun to care for your kids. And you don't want to take medication because of the possible side effects. But who will take care of your kids while you crash and are laid up in the hospital for a few weeks? It happens all too frequently with lupus patients, especially those who don't take care of themselves.

Please take care of yourself.
