Is lupus anticoagulant hereditary?

I read that Lupus is not the same as Lupus Anit Coagulant.

Yes. My Mom had Lupus. I don't have Lupus, but I do have another autoimmune disease or two. If one of your parents has Lupus, you are more likely to get it and so are your children. I do have APS (antiphospholipid antibody syndrome) but not the others. I do not know if my Mom had this. You have to go an d get checked. Before I became ill with psoriatic art. I was paranoid about getting Lupus. My regular Dr was nice enough to take the blood and send it off to be checked. All you need to do is go to your Dr. and tell them one of your parents has it and you'd like to be checked.

I also have several other blood clotting disorders and one genetic mutation referencing blood clotting. I asked about my own daughters possibility of getting this and I do not know the reasoning behind it but the hematologist told me to have them wait till they were 20-21 years old to test. That was, unless they became pregnant. Then they were to get tested immediately. Obviously.

Go the Lupus Foundation and read about it there. They have the best info on testing out of all the autoimmune web sites I've ever used. I use their info to understand my own blood work.

Good luck to you!

For the second part of your question-some people do have antiphospholipid antibody syndrome (which includes lupus anticoagulant and anticardiolipin) and don't have the rest of the lupus mess.

Researchers tell us that there is a "genetic predisposition" but that it is not directly hereditary. It's more like a combination of genes that happen to end up together in a person and then things that trigger the lupus.
