What to do if i have Lupus?

Went to Dr. yesterday and they think i really might have Lupus. What can i do to ease the pain or help me to where i can try to enjoy life.hi

The news that you may have Lupus doesnt have to be devastating my dear...
What you need to do is become proactive and find out every thing you can about this.
So how are you going to do this:

1. Find all the resources you can - websites, join groups and keep TALKING
2. Keep a pain diary
3 People are going to what to know how you are doing and if You cant do it maybe someone can do this for you... This would be a great place to tell people how you are doing and get advice

4. Either go to a Rheumatologist or get a Pain Management Physician
5. Form a network of Support people anyone that will listen to you when you are not feeling your best.
(you are welcome to add me to your list)

6. List of what you need or feel you need as reasonable accomodations at home and work.. this is not a strange request, because there are services that would be available to you.

i have learned SO much in the 20 yrs that i have been disabled and I just want to share it .. It doesnt have to be devastating news-- although nothing you wanted to hear.
I always live with the thought no matter how crappy I feel, how disabled I feel I am- someone somewhere is suffering more then me...
that gives me a little more strength to keep going.

so let's talk-ok

Go see a good Rheumatologist the help manage your symptoms.

gurl you need to do some resureach on it.I know a man that has the male form " ryder's " and have know a few gurls with lupus.really depends how old you are now and and how advanced it is . wish you the very best read on it

WOW.....im sorry to hear it! Well dont think your life is over....focus on being strong so u can get through the process like a trooper! Google support groups in your area....it's nice to know others that are going through the same thing and i'm sure they can help you along your way!

A friend of mine has Lupus and her symptoms have totally changed in the 20 years she has had it. Go on the web and do as much research as possible... there are many recommendations on how to treat your symptoms, depending on what part of your body /system is affected. She has been told to stay out of the sun and always wear sun block and a hat when outside. A holistic approach seems to be working for her. She has lost almost 100 pounds and is enjoying an active lifestyle again ... after being bedridden and miserable for many years. Do not give up.. stay active and do your research!!! I wish you the best of luck and send my prayers your way. God Bless You!!!

The pain you have with lupus is caused by inflammation. The inflammation is a result of your immune system not working correctly. It may attack health parts of your body. It may attack cellular debris. In both cases it makes huge molecules called immune complexes. Those are supposed to be taken to the spleen for disposal. But our whacked out immune system dumps them in the joints, kidneys and other organs.

Get yourself a good rheumatologist. Lupus is different for every patient. Some respond to a certain medication, others do not. The process of finding relief is one that you and your rheumatologist will do together.

Once you have a treament regimen that works, stick to it. See your rheumatologist on schedule.

Other suggestions:
1. Stay out of the sun PERIOD. Cover up, wear sun block, etc.
2. Eat a balanced diet high in fruits and veggies with little to no animal fat.
3. Eat cold water fish like salmon. The omega fatty acids will help with inflammation.
4. Use hand sanitizer and avoid sick people. We lupus patients are more likely to get sick and have a harder time getting better
5. Get regular, moderate exercise. It lubricates the joints, relieves stress and depression and helps you sleep better
6. Do not try "natural" remedies. They can do more harm than good. Noni Juice, Mona Vie, and Kallawalla will do nothing for your lupus, and the first may make it worse! No echinacea or alfalfa sprouts.
7. Educate yourself www.lupus.org is a good start
8. Develop stress management strategies: yoga, meditation, tai chi, chi qong, spiritual reading, journaling are all helpful
9. Know it's not your fault. You did not cause your lupus.
10. Rest often, before you get exhausted
11. Hot baths and showers help a lot
12. NSAIDs work (ibuprofen, naproxn, aspirin) but must be used with care

Good luck. I am 56 and have lupus and live a darn full life.
