MA or NC for lupus???

i would like my mother to move back to massachussetts were all here family is ..she has systemic lupus crythematosus and thought it was best to moved to North Carolina 3 years ago and lives alone.... but im reading about it and it seems like hot weather is worst can anyone help me out ...thanks

It's not the heat, it is the sunlight. And there is sunlight all over the planet. She can live wherever she is happy. There is wonderful and fashionable sun protective clothing available. My favorite is at the link provided.

SLE is not the end of the world. Stress makes it worse. If she is happy, then be happy for her.

I am a grandmother with SLE. I live in Florida and do just fine here. But I can tell you, when my grown kids (who happen to live in the same city) decide that they know what's best for me, or when anyone else does it, I just don't want much to do with them until they stop. Maybe your mom doesn't want you to hover over her. Maybe she wants to live her own life in the way and place she deems fit. Maybe she is afraid you will meddle in her life once she moves.

Have you considered having an honest conversation with your mother instead of hunting in Yahoo Answers for reasons to justify your desire to move her to MA? If the two of you cannot talk honestly, get a neutral third party to help you. If need be, set up a conference call with a psychologist or counselor on the line who is IMPARTIAL and only there to help the two of you communicate.

There is increased photosensitivity hence exposure to sunlight should be avoided.

Sunlight can cause new skin lupus lesions (sores).

Flares of internal lupus disease, including joint pains and fatigue, can also be triggered by sunlight.
Some medications increase the effects of the sun on a person's body. People with lupus taking these drugsincluding tetracycline antibiotics and many othersmay also very occasionally develop "phototoxic" reactions. These will lead to easy sunburning, so if you are taking these "photosensitizing" medications, you will need extra protection against sunlight. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if any of your current or new medications might make you extra-sensitive to the sun.
