This is a miss-named antibody. It is not Lupus and not an anticoagulant. In fact It causes the blood to clot abnormally fast. This antibody is one that is used to detect an auto immune disease named Antiphosholipid syndrome. There is alot more on the Internet now about this potentially fatal disease and I know of more and more men being diagnosed, so despite what some doctors may say, it does not only cause miscarriages. It is not to be taken lightly, though problems can vary from each individual.
I recommend joining an on line support group. I belong to APLSUK@yahoo groups and there is a ton of information there.

Anemia and iron deficiency may develop in as many as half of patients. Low platelet and white blood cell counts may be due to the disease or a side-effect of pharmacological treatment. Patients may have an association with antiphospholipid antibody syndrome (a thrombotic disorder) where autoantibodies to phospholipids are present in the patient's serum. Abnormalities associated with antiphospholipid antibody syndrome include a paradoxical prolonged PTT (which usually occurs in hemorrhagic disorders) and a positive test for antiphospholipid antibodies; the combination of such findings have earned the term "lupus anticoagulant positive". Another autoantibody finding in lupus is the anticardiolipin antibody which can cause a false positive test for syphilis."

Lupus anticoagulant and anticardiolipin are part of antiphospholipid antibody syndrome. Basically, this is "sticky" blood, where the platelets clump together too easily. It can cause cardiovascular events and strokes. It is usually treated with blood thinners like coumadin or wafarin and requires regulare medical monitoring for the drug levels in the blood stream.
