Lupus and Sudden appearence of rash - cause for concern? |
I am a 20 year old female diagnosed with SLE (Lupus) and woke up this morning with rash over most of my body which is also spreading. It has not affected my arms or hands so far and has leveled off now but is still spreading onto my face. The rush does not itch at all, but my face feels slightly sore/wound and my ears are quite red and hot. I do however not have a proper fever only a very slightly elevated temperature. I have not eaten anything noone else ate (and no one else has any problems) or worn any new cloth/new body cream/new perfume or anything which might easily cause a reaction. It could be lupus. Even those of us with SLE get weird rashes. One of the symptoms of Lupus is a rash on the face, sometimes resembling a butterfly. You shouldn't be concerned, but check with a doctor just in case. 99% chance that it's caused by the Lupus. Doesn't your doc have you on a stearoid treatment? That should clear it up. Good luck. Hi, I totally feel your anguish. The Malar or Butterfly rash does occur in both SLE and Discoid Lupus patients. I was about your age when my rashes started popping up on my face (around the bridge of the nose and under my eyes). Since you have the SLE diagnosis, please call your doctor immediately so that you can get put on the proper treatment. There is no way without examination that someone can tell you whether the rashes are part of a major flare or just benign. Take comfort though in the fact that there are many newer meds that can be used to control your rashes. In time, you will learn to avoid things that exacerbate the condition. In my case, it was sunlight, ie: photosensitivity (as weird as that may seem). Once you are responding to the medication, you can expect that your rash will fade. Good luck and try not to worry too much! The lupus rash is discussed at the source. This rash sounds more like an allergic reaction rather than being related to SLE. If I were you I would take some Benadryl and see if that helps with the rash. If it does then it's caused by histamines..ie an allergic reaction. If it doesn't clear up or get better after a day or two of the benadryl then it's time to call the doctor to have it evaluated. |
