What is the mental state of someone with Lupus and what would make of this situation?

A friend of mine has a 14 year old daughter that has a 21-22 year old (guy) friend with Lupus.. She claims that he has the mentality of a 14 year old.
Also she has told her mom that he won't be alive much longer (because he has lupus) he's dying. But we all think this is just a ploy so she can be with him which her mom WON"T allow because of his age.
A few months ago she ran away to this guys house too..
So we are wondering what the odds are that she's telling the truth. Is he really dying? and what are the chances that he "really" has the mental state of a 14 year old?
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that he has a history of dating very young girls..What would you make of this situation? Could he be a petofile?

If this guy was dying he wouldn't be trying to seduce young girls. Period.
So that is definitely a ploy. He's got a racket going and he knows it.
Lupus does not effect mental functioning. That is a separate issue. Many people with Lupus live long and productive lives.
Lupus is an autoimmune disorder that can strike any tissue of the body. It usually causes aches, pains and fatigue.

So he may have lupus, many people do, and you see them everyday on the street and in the workplace. He may also have an unrelated developmental delay, or mental illness.
The only one sure thing in this scenario, is he is seducing a little 14 year old and causing her to lie to and disobey her mother.

I have a disease like Lupus and though it does make me a little mentally unstable at times, I never feel the urge to break the law and be with a minor. Any disease will have a stressful effect on the mind as your body is under stress, but this is just not right. You asked if he was a pedofile. By law, yes, he is. She is 14 and has no clue what she is getting herself into. If he really loved her, he would not allow her to go to the extremes that she has. I would contact the authorities. The question of his 14 year old mentaliiy is a moot point. If he is not able to function by the laws of society, then he is in dire need of a psychological workup. Good luck.
