can lupus make you go bald? Lupus can cause the hair to fall out and so it can cause baldness. Fortunately, when the Lupus goes into remission the hair usually grows back. Additionally, some of the medications used to treat Lupus such as Cytoxan and Rituxan can cause the hair to fall out as they are chemotherapy agents. Hair loss in lupus is very common. A good dermatologist may be able to help. You cannot prevent it. You can only work to manage and calm the lupus. Some people with lupus also get alopecia areata, another autoimmune condition that causes dramatic thinning of the hair and baldness. Several people in my local lupus group have to wear wigs because of lupus related baldness. I haven't heard of Lupus causing baldness. The skin form of Lupus can cause hair to fall out in patches that may or may not grow back in, but total baldness....I'm thinking probably not. |
