I was just diagnosed with Lupus, what are the foods to avoid, and what is beneficial?

Alfalfa sprouts are really the only food that you should avoid as they tend to cause an inflammatory response in the body. Other than that you should eat a balanced diet low in fat and sodium and avoid fast foods. Really the same type of diet that everyone should be on but it is especially important for you because you are immuno compromised. Some doctors will recommend that you stay away from protein if you have kidney issues but this really hasn't been scientifically proven, just more allegorical than anything.

If you are taking steroids (prednisone) then you need to make sure you watch your sugar intake as prednisone can cause a spike in blood sugar and can actually cause you to become diabetic. Additionally you should avoid salt as it retains water and prednisone also causes this same effect (moon face).

I wish you the best of luck!

No offense, but the foods to avoid are the last of your problems. Besides, you don't really need to avoid any specific foods, you just need to eat healthy. Stay off the salty and high sugar foods because you want to put as little stress upon your kidneys as possible.

Go to Yahoo health and type in Lupus and you will find all you need to know.
