Can anyone die of lupus?

It's rare these days, but yes. Lupus causes your body to attack connective tissues, which can include your brain, heart, lungs, kidneys.

People with Lupus are monitored carefully for any signs that this is happening. If you have chest pain you'll be given a chest xray,and ECG, every appointment includes urine sample to check for protein, which could be a sign that kidneys aren't working.

You're also told to get the flu jag, and get any infection treated immediately.

It's not something I worry about. With good care and self awareness most lupus patients have normal life expectancy. There's now a 95% survival rate 10 years after diagnosis (which could be years after first attack)

from my understanding, you don't actually die FROM lupus, you die from damage done to your organs (kidneys, lungs, heart, etc) caused by the inflammation an autoimmune disease causes. i believe that this is what my doctor told me when he suspected i might have it, but i definitely could be wrong.

yes it can be fatal
