When you have Lupus can you be in...?

Is it true that your not allowed to be out in the sun??

Ive just recently been disgnosed with Lupus, and ive been doing alot of reading and ive seen where it says sunlight, or even tanning beds can bring on a flare. But nothing about just compelety staying out of sunlight. Now my older sister has Lupus also, and she tells me that i have to stay out of sunlight this summer, like i cant go out on boats or go swimming or nothing. Last time i was at the doctor i forgot to ask if that was true or not. so i was wondering if it is true that your not allowed to go out in the sunlight or not. I just thought if you do, you have to like cake sunlotion on.

My doctor told me to wear total sun block (not just a high factor, complete block.) and no sunBATHING, nothing about avoiding boats or daylight in general,although he did suggest a wetsuit for swimming.

Lupus is different for different people. I usually check the UV index - often it's higher when cloudy. If it's med-high I wear factor 15 suncream (in UK). When I go abroad I come out in rash from sun. So I Wear the sunblock, hat, cover-up and stay in shade as much as possible which helps.

wear a hat and cover your skin sunlight can bring on a flare up also remember not all lupus patients are the same some have different symptoms/pain etc.. the best i can tell you is like i said cover your skin long sleeves and be sure to wear a hat sunscreen under clothing may help i have lupus i do not go in the sun much if i do im covered and im not in it for long..
