Lupus or what??

Okay so I have been freaking myself out here for awhile...I went to the doctor on Monday due to a rash that was developing on my face (nose and cheeks) on Saturday. The rash itched a little and it got more red on Sunday and by Monday...forget about it! When I went to the doctor I told her I had no allergies and I hadn't eaten any new foods or used new soaps and things. I had a mild fever...99.8 and body aches, chills, fatigue...clear signs of the flu..WRONG! tested negative for flu. The doctor prescribed some antibiotic (Doxycycline) to hopefully take care of me face and asked me to put a cortasaid cream on my face and nothing else....well, three days later and now I am coughing, extrememly fatigued, congested, still have headaches and the rash has almost disappeared...I am under a lot of stress and am around kids who are sick right now...should I think this could be Lupus as the doc said it is highly unlikely...but still..i need to know.

I have Lupus, and it comes in many forms, hence the name "Disease of a Thousand Faces." It is difficult to diagnose, and you usually must have 7 of a list of indicators to be diagnosed.

Fever is a very common feature of lupus. Coughing and congestion are not. I do know that lupus falre-ups are often triggered by having stress, and especially having another illness, because when you get sick it activates your immune system, hence activating the lupus, because what lupus is in a nutshell is a hyperactive immune system that attacks healthy tissue.

It doesnt matter if you have a family history of Lupus, either, since cause is unknown, but it is thought to be genetic but NOT hereditary, there is a difference, and its common not to have anyone else in your family with it.

I would go by the Doctors advice, if the rash and fever persist, go back again. If everything persists, of course, see your Doc as well.

Hopefully it IS a virus and not lupus.

Take care!!
Lupus is a very complicated disease and it is very difficult to diagnose. It is also a serious disease that can effect every organ in the body. Is their Lupus in your family? Does other people have any auto immune diseases? Why would you jump to the conclusion that it is Lupus? Lupus generally doesn't come with a fever, it's auto immune. There are many, many different illnesses, I don't think I'd waste any more time worrying about Lupus. I hope you feel better soon. I have RA and am on chat lines with people that have been diagnosed with Lupus.
It doesn't sound like lupus. Lupus doesn't cause coughing and congestion. It does sound like a virus. Kids carry around a dizzying variety of viruses, especially when they're around other kids (we teach them to share, and they do!). Likely, they brought home a virus which (unfortunately) you had never been exposed to. Adult bodies react differently to viruses than children's. Also, if you are stressed, that will compromise your immune system, making it harder for you to fight it off.
