Is lupus communicable? |
i have a friend who recently diagnosed with lupus. my friend and i decided to visit her but my husband will not allow me because i might catch the disease, is it possible? No lupus in not contagious. Is is an auto immune disorder. No, you can't "catch" it. There is a familial association, women who have lupus often have daughters with lupus. And why do you let your husband dictate you? Here is a link to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services concerning Lupus. It, (and many other websites) states that Lupus is NOT contagious! http://www.4woman.gov/faq/lupus.htm... Oh My Gosh! No it is not catching. It runs in the family of arthritis. It is usually genetic. It runs in families. Mostly women. My mother in law had it and her mother and all five sisters. Both of my daughters are going to get a blood test for it. Your body thinks your organs are bad and attacks them. It is a type of re-verse auto immune disease. The medical world has come a long way in treating it. It used to be Prednisone was the only thing that helped. Nasty stuff. Hope this helps no Hello, Lupus is not a contagious disease. It cannot be passed on even through sexual contact. Right now your friend needs you to understand and be compassionate. It's scary when you or someone you know is diagnosed with a disease. Lupus is an autoimmune disease (NOT HIV or AIDS). It would benefit you, your husband and your friend for you to check out this website http://www.lupus.org/education/faq.html#... It will answer all your questions. God bless you and your friend. http://www.lupus.org/education/faq.html#... lupus is an auto-immune disorder, meaning the automatic immune response the body has (such as when you run a fever, it is the body's automatic immunity response to the the infection/bacteria because germs can't survive in heat) and this auto-pilot system is dysfunctional, it is there but it works wrong, with lupus, it attacks the body's organs and tissues as though they are a "germ" or "foreign" object and must be destroyed. there are many other "auto-immune" disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, and multiple sclerosis ( which i have) and i know first hand how confused people can get with the difference between: AN AUTO-IMMUNE DISORDER AND IMMUNO-DEFICIENT DISORDER SYNDROME. and auto-immune disorder can easily be confused with an immuno-deficient disorder (i.e. AIDS) aids is where the bodies simple immune system becomes destroyed and ceases to exist at all. Auto-immune disorders are not contagious they are passed on through your hereditary genes, and passed through generations. |
