Can Lupus cause death?

Complications from Lupus can cause serve illness which might lead to death.( kidney failure)
With medical advances today, very very rarely do Lupus patients die.
Most people live as normally as possible with Lupus.
Some people have more severe symptoms than others...which is typical of Lupus, no two people have the exact same symptoms.
Most severe problems with Lupus are controlled with steroids ..plaquenil...or chemotherapeutic drugs. Source(s): I have Lupus...and have lived with it for 15 years since I was diagnosed.
Yes Lupus causes death.
Systemic lupus erythematosus is a chronic, multisystem, inflammatory disorder of probable autoimmune etiology, occurring predominantly in young women. Common manifestations include arthralgias and arthritis; malar and other skin rashes; pleuritis or pericarditis; renal or CNS involvement; and hematologic cytopenia. Diagnosis requires clinical and serologic criteria. Treatment of severe ongoing active disease requires corticosteroids, often hydroxychloroquine, and sometimes immunosuppressants.
The 10-year survival rate for lupus patients is greater than 85%. People with severe involvement of the brain, lungs, heart, and kidney do worse than others in terms of overall survival and disability.
Some people with SLE have deposits of antibodies within the cells (glomeruli) of the kidneys. This leads to a condition called lupus nephritis. Patients with this condition may eventually develop kidney failure and require dialysis or kidney transplantation.
Other complications include:
* Infection
* Thrombocytopenia
* Hemolytic anemia
* Myocarditis
* Seizures

yes
lost a friend of mine in around 1990 to lupus. She left behind a 3 yr old son.
From my understanding, pathologists are finding that most of the organ failure in Lupus patients is caused by Another Antibody and currently a separate disease called Antiphospholipid Syndrome This is found in some, but not all Lupus patients. It is currently a separate disease. Lupus has run in my family, but I have relatives who live into their 80's with Lupus alone. I was diagnosed with APS several years ago and am on large doing of anticoagulant therapy. I am including a site for this little known disease and it's connection to Lupus
