I have symptoms of Lupus...? |
..and yet my blood tests came back negative. I was fine for a few weeks, and now the symptoms are back worse than before. The swelling, joint pain (its killing my fingers to type this), mouth ulcers, fatigue are worse than I originally had. I have a doctors appt on the 12th... My question...is there any way to ward off the flares? How does one cope during the flares? My blood tests came out negative too, but i definatly have lupus SLE. Ask your doctor to do your bloodtests with the ELIZA method. its a different method, but im not sure how it works. after my doctor used that method, it came out positive. Also, i used some aleve for pain, other than that, im not sure.. I take prednisone, cellcept, and plaquinil for SLE, and its kept it under control for a while =] i hope u get better My understanding is that a diet high in omega 3 fatty acids is good for all type of arthritis and autoimmune flare-ups. Eating salmon, tuna and nuts can assist with this, as well as there are omega 3 supplements you can take. It's also important to avoid sugar and refined carbohydrates. All of this will reduce inflammation in the body. See www.drweil.com for more on this. I would definitely continue to look to your doctor for answers. There are other autoimmune disorders that cause similar symptoms to lupus (Guillain - Barre, Chronic Fatigue, etc.) and you should probably be checked for a number of different disorders. I know it's frustrating to be in pain and not have answers. Don't give up and I wish you well. Can you use aspirin or one of the arthitis meds for the joint pain and fever? Fatigue sometimes will be helped with vitamin 15, which brings oxygen to the blood stream, and rest when needed. We thought our daughter had lupus, and it turned out to be Epstein Barr, which will give the same symptoms, the good news is it can be environmentally triggered. She was living in a place with alot of mold. A Dr. Marshall Mandal or Mandell, helped her, based in CT. but I believe you can get one of his books at the library or look up his name on the web. Our daughter has 3 children and lots of energy today, but she eats extremely healthy, excercises daily and the symptoms are gone. Have you ever had mono as a child? They say if you did the Epstein Barr acts as shingles do to chicken pox. Study this, and ask your doctor. Meanwhile, eat healthy, treat your symptoms as they come and see if you can get some vitamin 15. You should immediately start taking cortisone therapy to save your joint cartilage do not waste your time by using omega stuff. Cause it seems you joints got a mycoplasma infection or it may be a chlamydia too whether the reason is chlamydia or something different you are in real trouble . If your joint got damaged it is hard to make them healthy .Pls try to see another doctor or take cortisone 16 mg daily a normal dose . It is physical need dose I mean our body need amount of cortisone .Indeed our body produces cortisol . Cortisone is a man made version of it. I advise you to use metilprednisolon .And yuo may need some antibiotics to cure the infection as you supress your immune system to overcome inflammation ., You are in need of immediate treatment please be quick about this. Lupus flares can be triggered by exposure to sunlight, so always wear sunscreen a hat and long sleeves to minimize it. I found that Advil and Motrin were a godsend at that time. I called it my 'candy'. Though they are not good for your kidneys. Ask your doctor to send you to a Rheumatologist. Also, look up a Lupus support group in your artea. The American Lupus Society will likely have a chapter near you. Best of luck, and remember, It may be hell now, but with proper treatment, it doesn't have to stay that way. Before I was diagnosed I couldn't flip a light switch with my fingers. Now I am GREAT leading a normal life. First of all let yourself know you are not crazy or hypochondriac. You are going thru this and your pain is very real even if not yet diagnosed. This is a very tricky desease, although with modern medice very treatable, so it may be a while until fully diagnosed. Omega acids, condroitin and such may aliviate physical symptoms, mild exercise at night ( or away from the sun) not exerting to much or over heating yourself work. Be pro-active in your condition, journal your activities maybe even food intake and write down everything that way when and if you have a flare up you know more or less what may be the cause. Seek support groups and dont let anyone tell you is all in your mind, I know how painful having Lupus is. Educate yourself on this condition and try to mantain an open mind to treatments. My best wishes to you. Love. Ask your doctor about prescribing Cymbalta. It is used for fibromyalgia pain which is very similar to lupus pain. It should make a big difference in your pain level. It takes about a month to get used to the medicine though. |
