PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!

Hi,

I have fibromyalgia and I am being tested for MS and Lupus. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia 10 years ago. My mom also has fibromyalgia and Lupus. There are a lot of good websites out there that have tons of information on fibromyalgia. Just put it in the yahoo search. You don't necesarily have to have a positive ana to go to a rheumatoligist. I have not had a positive test...and I do go to one. Most rheumatologist can really help you deal with the symptoms of FM. I know for me it has been best to deal with each symptom at a time and not all of them. FM can make life very dificult but FM can be managed. This is a chatroom I go to for help. http://www.fibromyalgiachat.com/...
I wish you well..take care.
Your mom isn't good at explaining things, and neither are you, ha ha.
How old are you, were there any preceeding factors, do you have a history of autoimmune disorder in your family? These are going to be the sorts of questions that need to be addressed. I have not read anything about fibromyalgia being genetic, but autoimmune disorders tend to be. First off, dont screw with your own mind being afraid. Thats the first commandment of dealing with anxiety in my book.
I assume that your doctor called for an ANA test, and that it came back positive - which is why you are being sent to the Rhumatologist. That in itself is not a big deal, while a positive ANA does correlate with some autoimmune disorders, in a good number of people it is also occurs idiopathically (for no reason, and having no effect). There will be other bloodwork to be done, and xrays etc.
However, there are wide variance in how each of these problems manifest, some people fare better than others, but in the end, a persons attitude has more to do with outcome than genetics, or practically anything else.

What I said about messing with your own head by using your own fear as a weapon is true though. Trust me, I have plenty of experience on this one. Even if you actually do have one of these, it is not the end of the world, you are just buying into the fear - don't, fear will shape how you make decisions, and that is when people start going downhill.

P.S. I have a long history of MS in my family, and a long personal history of neurological issues, joint pain etc. as well as a +ANA. So I was sure that I was going to be diagnosed with one. I do have arthritis, in my neck, shoulders, chest, lower back, hips, knees and feet. My digestion is all messed up, I get short of breath, and its painful to breathe at times, and I have high blood pressure and fast heart beat. What I was sure was going to turn out to be MS was MS of another kind - I have Marfans Syndrome, and while the joint pain sucks, I dont let it get to me. Some people were born with Blue eyes, others with brown. This just happens to be the genes I got stuck with in the cosmic crap shoot. By the way, I'm 34, so its not like I am cool with the idea of feeling like someone twice my age all the time, but y'know, you learn a lot about acceptance when it is thrust on you.
Good Luck
