I have an illness called lupus, does anybody know if i can prepare a will and last testament, for free? it is great that you are trying to be prepared for the inevitable but the inevitable will most likely not come from the lupus.. we just lost my grandmother at 89 who had it and her death had nothing to do with it, and yes I also have lupus.. i have systematic lupus and although i went through a few scary lupus attacks for the most part i have no symptoms excpet for the occasional join pain. I was diagnosed almost 10 years ago. Look at the website lupus.org for your best info. As far as your will I would not suggest doing it yourself or buying a form to do it. Most of the forms you buy or softwear will even tell you it may not be valid in your state. If you want to do it cheap there are alott of lawyers that will do it for $50-125 or you could join one of those pre paid lawyer things but i would make sure to use an attorny or atleast after doing your will yourself have an attorny look it over to make sure its legal.. they will normally only charge $25 to review it and give imput or make corrections for you. There should be sites or cheap programs you can buy. I'm sorry for your lupus, I have it too, which is odd because I am a male. just because you have Lupus does not mean you need a will or anything. My mother has it and she has been living with it for 9 years and nothing bad is going on it is several forms of Lupus. talk to your doctor and he can help you decide if you need a will. I will say a pray for you and your family. Good Luck You can buy a kit at stores like Office Max. I had one done last year, but I went to an attorney and I'm glad I did. I was able to ask a lot of questions, and he gave me a lot information I didn't know. It only cost a little over $300.00 which isn't a lot for peace of mind. I'm sorry about your diagnosis. Good luck. Post offices did have will kits but i'm not sure if they still do, cost was about $5, alot cheaper than a lawyer. Good idea to do one, not that you'll need one for along time i hope. You will probably not die from Lupus if you follow your physicians directions. Yes you can draw up your own will on a piece of paper and have it notarized and witnessed and that should be legally binding keep it sealed in an envelope that you have mailed to yourself and do not open it unless you want to change it then you would have to repeat the process. Make sure you give the envelope with the will in it to someone you trust for safe keeping a relative would be the best option. You will probably have to pay the notary and spring for postage but that document would serve as your will as long as envelope is not tampered with or opened. Yes, you can if you know how. However, if you make a mistake it will not be valid. Better to have it done through a lawyer. |
