Can someone have Crohns and Lupus? |
Any sites with info and to treat both? Clinically speaking, a person can have Crohns and Lupus symptoms at the same time...but I'd definitely have further tests done. With Lupus, there's a test called an Anti-Nuclear Antibody test, or ANA, and if it's positive, then Lupus is possible. Both diseases are considered auto-immune disorders...the best way I can explain an auto-immune disorder is that your body mistakenly sees healthy body tissue as foreign, and therefore creates antibodies which attack the healthy tissue. Crohn's is a "localized" auto-immune disorder, which means it primarily causes problems in one system throughout the body...Lupus is a systemic disorder, which means it can effect the entire body system as a whole. However, even though Crohn's is localized, the problems associated with it can have an indirect effect on organs and systems. See below for a great link to Autoimmune deficiency disorders. Source(s): http://www.aarda.org/ Chrons and Lupus are two entirely different diseases so yes you could have both of them at the same time. Yes, many people with Lupus have Crohns. I don't know of any sites, but I do think it's possible. Both are auto-immune conditions, and they can occur in clusters, which makes sense. If you're immune system is out of whack, you'd be vulnerable to any of several auto--immune conditions. I would seek an MD's advice, but remember, it's your body, and just because they have an MD, doesn't mean they should make the decisions for you. I would be open to an integrated approach to treatment. By that I mean that I would consider lifestyle changes (diet, exercise, supplements, visualization, etc.) in addition to tradtional treatments. |
