Is there a connection between lupus and breast implants? |
Is there a connection between lupus and breast implants? They say no..... but you never know. I've had Lupus for almost 26 years now, and have never had implants... mine ended up being related to childbirth, of all things. The baby started growing, and my immune system went crazy. he was worth it though... :o) http://www.lupus.org/education/faq.html#... "..........The following year, in June of 1999, the Institute of Medicine's final report concurred with the scientific evidence that had accumulated over the previous 7 years which does not support the notion that silicone breast implants cause lupus. At the present time, as far as we know, there is no scientific evidence to indicate a cause-effect relationship between silicone breast implants and lupus. " The cause of lupus is unknown. As so many women have breast implants these days, the epidemiologists would know by now if there were an association between it and lupus. So I think it is safe to say that there is no known connection between the two. No, because I know several women who have lupus and not implants. Not that I am aware of. Lupus is autoimmune and you have a marker in your blood. If this was caused by breast implants then I must be the only person with Lupus and no breast implant. Some researchers believe that there is a connection. |
