Can someone die from having lupus?

lupus is a skin inflammatory/ulceratory kinda disease but can someone die directly from it or could lupus affect other parts of the body that inturn could kill you?

As many of the others have already said, this is an autoimmune disease that can affect any of the body systems including skin, musculoskeletal, heart, arteries and kidneys, eyes and lungs. However, many people only have one or two problems (facial rash, sore joints) and live fulfilled lives.

Once diagnosed, you will be well looked after by a whole host of specialists who will keep a check on your symptoms and give you the correct medications as and when you need them. You will be told which symptoms to look out for so that the docs can treat you as soon as possible.

People with SLE on average do die younger - but then dying at 70-odd instead of 80-odd isn't all that bad. A lot of elderly people (especially those in their 80's and 90's) are on about 15 types of medication and have a poor quality of life so I'm all for popping my clogs a bit early!!

In the words of Roy "Chubby" Brown - 100% of non-smokers die!

A third of us will get cancer, and almost the same number will have a heart attack or stroke.

You can't live in a cotton wool house. The best thing to do is enjoy life while you can and forget about death - it gets us all in the end!!

Good luck.
Its an icurable disease that affects your immune system. You don't die from lupus but from the complications it causes. But lupus is a death sentence.
lupus is an auto-immune disease, meaning your body starts attacking itself. I had a close friend with lupus and she lived for quite some time before her heart eventually gave out (as a complication). I wouldnt say she was "fine" prior to the point where she started getting sicker, but it is a managable disease and it's possible to live a normal life as long as you take care of yourself....
Yes. My cousin died from lupus.
My aunt has lupus, and I talked to my mom about it. She said you COULD die, but I don't know if it can kill you directly. I think it could also affect some of your body parts, too. Hopefully, this answers your question. If not, just email me...
