Conceiving after being diagnosed with lupus is it safe? |
my husband and I were thinking f having a second child but In January I got dignosed with lupus. he wants to try for his boy .So I'm consered for myhealth because I have a total of three children.Two from a previos relationship No matter what type of answer you get here or any research you do on the internet, you should still see your doctor. A doctor would be the only person that can give you a specialized opinion based on medical training, and the only person that I would trust with something of this nature. You have to think of your health first and each individual may be different so don't take your chances. I have heard that they don't recommend women who have lupus to get pregnant because of the incredible stress to the body that pregnancy causes. On the other hand, I have heard that getting pregnant and during pregnancy, women with lupus feel much better. My best friend was diagnosed with lupus and was told not to get pregnant, but she did and she had a wonderful pregnancy, she wasn't in pain and she felt great. She had a healthy baby boy in March of 2003, and about 6 months later, she started feeling very tired and winded, so she went to the hospital and died a few days later. The doctors had said that she had an aggressive form of lupus, brought on by the pregnancy, and it attacked the tissues surrounding her heart. She was 25 years old. I am really not trying to alarm you, I wanted to let you know what my friend had gone through, it doesn't mean that this will happen to you, just wanted you to know that this can happen. I dont know that it would effect the baby, but maybe your the one who should be careful while your pregnancy, with this disease.......And take special care to get lots of rest, and take it really easy, you know.. I would definately consult your doctor about this, I know you wanted to check with us first, in case your doctor says: 'You shouldn't chance having another baby with this disease", and who want's to hear that, when you want to give your husband his son, you know.. But, if this should happen, tell him, you absolutely wont get an abortion and go see another doctor, if he requests any such thing, maybe even a 'Specialist' 'Gyno' you know, one who treats women who do have any kinds of diseases, while pregnant, you know.. You may just be in better hands having such a doctor as this anyway, you know.. My 2nd husband's mom had a heart malfunction, and when she'd gotten pregnant with my 2nd husband, the doctor's told her having this child would kill her, for her to get an abortion, and this was in the "60s" mind you!! Well, when she went home and told her husband, he wouldn't hear of that!! He wanted his son, regardless !!! So, she had him, and didn't die, so just pray for God to protect you & the baby, hun, now, during, and after, you know.. Good luck to you & yours!! Smile!!! I've been told that when you have lupus it makes conceiving harder. You are also 3 times more likely to miscarriage. Also, find out from your doctor if you have the antibody for neonatal lupus. I didn't know I had it until I asked my doctor. That antibody makes a small risk for your child to be born with heart defects. But besides this they say that there is no reason for a person with lupus not to get pregnant, you just need to be monitored more carefully than the average person and are considered a high risk pregnancy. Yes it is. It will be a high risk pregnancy. You have to coordinate with your doctor. I have Lupus and am 24 weeks pregnant at the moment. I have a high ANA and am on aspirin and blood thinning needles every day up until I basically give birth. I have to have regular check ups with the OBGYN because I am more at risk of having pre-eclampsia and giving birth early. I am also at a high risk of having a miscarriage because of my ANA levels. You should speak to your specialist about becoming pregnant as he can tell you the risk factors and what may be expected of you. |
