My friend that has the illness of Lupus was given morphine for her pains.? |
This med upsets her stomache.What can she do for throwing up and nausea? She should tell her doctor. He can either change her medication or prescribe something for nausea. Ginger tea may help for now. Take a piece of ginger root that is about half an inch long, slice it into several slivers, pour a cup of boiling water over it and let steep for 5 minutes, remove the ginger and add sugar or honey to taste. The nausea will be better by the time you finish the cup of tea. Works great. It's very common with morphine or other narcotics, and he may prescribe a drug called promethazine (Phenergan). It will have two positive effects for her. First, it will ease the nausea and vomiting. Second, promethazine potentiates the effects of narcotics as analgesics, which in simple terms means that it will make the pain medication work much better. I'm a freakin' genius. I am on morphine and she needs to eat prior to taking them and then if she is still has nausea, tell her to call her doctor that gave her the morphine and ask him to call her in some phenergan. It will help with that but it might make her drowsy. I usually just wait about 2 hours and it goes away. good luck |
