My husband's mother passed away from Lupus, which is usually handed down through females...? |
...My husband isn't at a high risk since he's a male, but I'd love to know if he's a CARRIER and if our DAUGHTER is at risk? No one has been able to tell me. Sources for more information would be greatly appreciated. There's a good article about Lupus at http://www.hopkins-arthritis.som.jhmi.ed... "The good news is that only two out of 100 children whose mother has lupus will get lupus. The genetic risk is small. It is not strictly a genetic disease." Hope this helps. try google and sevral doctors opinions I can only add that Lupus is really difficult to diagnose first of all. My friend had it for years and never knew, all the time going to doctors who simply could not find the reasons for her symptoms. Sadly that is the nature of the disease, it is passed from mother to daughter so if you know that the risk is elevated for your daughter you are in better shape than my friend. What I learned from her is that you have to keep reminding the doctor that your daughter is at a higher risk due to family history/ Check out the LUpus foundation, Google Lupus Foundation sorry I don't have the website address |
