Do I really need a final diagnosis for lupus?

Im so sick of going to a 1000 different dr's. Is a diagnosis really that important, or can i just continue to take all the freekin meds they have me on... I think the stress of all if this is makin me feel more crapy. Since there is no cure and nothin they can really do about it can't I just Ignore it and deal with the symptoms when they come. Oh why all the meds? doesn't that make it harder on my kidneys and liver?

Yes Michelle unfortunately you do. The reason being is the treatment for lupus is so specific to that disorder. Autoimmune disorders are often hard to diagnose because the symptoms tend to mimic each other. All the meds are to keep your immune system from seeing your organs as the "enemy" . Hopefully in time you will go into remission and be able to taper of the meds. Good luck .
First things first. You have to get a real diagnosis. It may not be Lupus. There are very similar diseases that mimic it. Like Rheumetoid Arthritus, and Fibromyalgia. I have fibromyalgia, and they thought it could be Lupus, or Rheumetoid Arthritis. It was neither of them. And it was because I kept seeing doctor after doctor (I have had Chronic Pain since April of 2002) And just last Tuesday, after seeing many doctors, in 3 different STATES, did I finally get an answer. For some, being on medications is vital for them to function and be normal in every day life. As for your kidneys and liver, it all depends on what you are on specifically. I am on pain medication, and a muscle relaxer for my fibromyalgia, and it is not harming my organs. Also, Look up all of your medications online, check their possible harmful side effects. I do want to let you know that if you are taking Tylenol chronically, that may cause harmful effects in the long run. If you need anything more, let us know! Good Luck
