I've just been told that I might have SLE or Lupus in the early stages what should I do? |
I've seen a rheumatologist and he said that I'm ANA positive undiagnosed. How can that be? My PCP said that I have all the symptoms of SLE or Lupus. I don't want to be left in the dark and then get hit hard later. I really need to know for sure so I can start making the right life changes. Should I get a second oppion from another Rheumatologist? I would go to get a second opinion if possible, as lupus does not have a clear positive or negative one test. But then, if this comes back positive start aggressive treatment early. In the 1950s the 5 year survival rate (out of 100 diagnosed people, the number of people still alive due to lupus) was only 50. Now it is around 94-96 out of 100). This is due not only to better treatments, earlier diagnosis, but also more aggressive diagnosis. You need to be proactive, and take charge of your health. I know in my case I've avoided a lot of future health issues by doing so. Good luck! Absolutely get a second opinion, and find out all you can about these conditions. Good luck. Many people walk this planet and test positive to ANA and Rheumatoid Factors but never succumb to Lupus or Rheumatoid Arthritis. It just means you happen to be one of these people. Unless you have 'symptoms' please look up Lupus symptoms and your normal CBC reflects something is going on, then you will remain ANA positive undiagnosed. In other words you carry the ANA but may never succumb to Lupus. The PCP 'thought' you might have Lupus so sent you to the expert a Rheumatologist, who is not diagnosing Lupus based on his blood tests, his experience and your symptoms. |
