Lupus.... what do you know?? |
my friend got diagnosed with lupus (sle) recently and doesnt know much about it, does anyone know anything to help with the pain? and have any good advice on the subject.. please respond I have had it for about 5 years now...It's an autoimmune disease (autoimmune diseases occur when the immune system does not recognize self antigens as self and attack those cells as if they were foreign) which can cause fatigue, sun sensitivity, joint pain, rashes (commonly the butterfly rash across the cheeks and bridge of the nose), hair loss, and many other symptoms. Lupus is not a death sentence and many can live life with little interruption from SLE; however, it can be quite serious and should be monitored by the person living with it as well as their rheumatologist. There are a lot of misconceptions about lupus, is not related to cancer nor the AIDS virus, and I have had to do my fair share of explaining this to people... Tell your friend to feel free and look at credible websites regarding lupus, but try not to over do it, otherwise she could really start to scare herself or freak out over things they may not happen anyway..Stress can produce flares of symptoms and stressing herself out over what may happen is understandable, but it doesn't help keep remission (remission is when symptoms aren't active)... Some people ice their joints or put hot compresses on them, while others take pain relievers and stay off of those joints for a while... If she has any questions or concerns, tell her she she can email me circle_sky_butterfly@yahoo.com Source(s): Personal experience.. http://www.lupus.org/newsite/index.html... Lupus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease that can affect virtually any system in the body. Think of it as a 'self-allergy' where the body attacks its own cells and tissues, causing inflammation, pain, and possible organ damage. I found this and hope it's of help http://www.uklupus.co.uk/new.html... google it Its not a pleasant disease, currently incurable, but it can be managed, to the point of living a normal life if the patient takes extra care of themselves. Take a look at http://www.lupusuk.com, lots of information on there My best advice... tell your friend to take good care of herself, and be there for her when she needs you x |
