LUPUS, any suggestions on vitamin or lifestyle changes? |
any advice?? i'm fatigued, hair falling out, irritable. help! You may actually have Celiac disease, which is commonly misdiagnosed as lupus, especially in the states. It can cause the symptoms you describe and lead to lupus if untreated. This was the case with my mother. There is plenty of information online, I have included some links in the "source" area. The treatment is to avoid all wheat and dairy, that is called a "gluten free, casein free" diet, or GFCF for short. The many symptoms, such as chronic fatigue, are caused by malabsorption of vitamins and minerals. Here's what I take: - Vitamin B Complex, contains 50mg of every B vitamin and 400mg of Folic Acid (Folate). It may be a good idea to get an injection from a doctor to start off, since pills won't be completely absorbed. - Mineral supplement containing magnesium, calcium, zinc. etc. - Make certain any supplements are specifically marked "contains no gluten, dairy, etc" somewhere on the label. Source(s): I have celiac disease. http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases... http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez... http://www.celiac.com/catalog/product_in... check link for a ton of LUPUS information http://answers.yahoo.com/search/search_r... Hi, If it is a defenite Lupus diagnosis, some of it may be the drugs your on. However some diet changes may help. I do know that in the summer close to 80 % of females do shed hair much like animals sheding their winter coat. But here are some of the supplments and foods I tend to take. That I know wont harm me. Fish oil/ or flax seed oil : both fall into the essential fatty acids of omegas 3 or 6 a minimum of 1200 a day to 2400 a day (reasonablly priced) co-Q 10 (usually close to 30.00 for a 1 month supply) it rebulids collegen, and helps with nail and hair growth at least 100 mg daily Folic Acid: Suggested by my Rhuemotologist. just all around good. For fatigue, irratibility. 400 mg Green Tea supplements: The antioxidents help with energy, and everything else 500mg Foods: Dark Green leafy vegtables, all veggies that dont contain a lot of starch Good Oils; Olive oil, cocunt oil, a handful of unsalted nuts a day Fruits in season Some soy product, like soy milk if you can handle the taste cut out as much of white products as possible (i use brown rice rather then white, wheat bread over white) Now nyou have to induldge sometimes, or youll feel deprived, but I just got off IV Chemo, I did not even come close to loosing all my hair, and what I did loose has grown back already only 3 months later, partly because i took care of self through diet, and had pretty healthy hair, even with mild daily hair loss good luck chris I've lived with it for over 16 yrs. aerobic exercise really helps. It's summer and it's nice to go out and exercise but stay away from direct sunlight. step aerobics is also good and don't eat too much meat. Your irritability is from the prednisone, if you're taking them. That's a side effect, unfortunately... one of many. Just have a positive attitude, eat right and exercise and hopefully your lupus will go into remission and won't have to take any drugs. OK fine, you did not develp lupus because the world is all healthy and "natural." And, oh, hemlock and arsenic are natural but they can kill you. You need to get the immune system quieted down and then work on reducing the meds. You can wait around and have some lovely permanent organ damage or you can do something now. Half of all SLE patients have kidney disease at some point. That can kill you while you are hunting for the magic bullet natural solution. If you had cancer would you just take vitamins? How about a broken leg? Blocked arteries to the heart? How is this different? It's not. Yoga, meditation, tai chi and chi gong all help reduce stress and calm the overactive immune system. Fish oil and other omega fatty acids like oil of evening primrose. A diet high in fiber and low in animal body parts, especially those which have been given hormones and antibiotics. Avoid processed foods, white flour and white sugar. Daily exercise-walking, swimming, biking to keep joints flexible Turmeric in your cooking. It reduces the inflammation that causes the pain. Ginger tea does the same thing. Don't try to be super person. Let people help you. Rest before you get tired. Keep your options open. Don't push yourself. ABSOLUTELY stay out of the sun. Educate yourself www.lupus.org Work with your rheumatologist instead of against. You are miserable and there is help, but you are refusing to consider it. Sure there are side effects. There are side effects of many things in modern life, one of them is lupus. |
