I'm trying to get "SSI". I'm married & husband has job. I have Lupus/Fibromyalgia. Can I qualify? I can't work

I also have Social Anxiety Disorder and insomnia. I know I'm disabled but I've been told by some people that because my husband has a job and insurance I probably won't qualify. I never worked a job outside the house. I was a mother/wife. So I can't try to get SS. SSI is Supplemental Security Income. I go to court June22. I'm so scared to get in front of people if I just knew I had a chance maybe it would help me feel better. Thank you.

Hello! You can't quite trying. I am now 45, I am waiting to go before a judge a second time. You can not can not give up!!!!!!!!!! That's what the system wants you to do. My age, and my education is holding me back. they have a guideline they go by. If I was at least 55, my chances would improve alot, but I am not. What I am trying to say, is keep your head up! and never give up! You are not alone, just keep on keeping on.
highly unlikely the first time around, but often when you appeal, you get it, so don't give up;
You should be able to get disability but not SSI as your husband probably makes to much money. Apply for social security disablilty benefits with your local social security office.
Sounds like you can qualify, but it is a long process and involves tons of paperwork and info from the doctor. You have to have a written statement stating that you are diagnosed with your above symptoms and be very convincing that it affects your day to day living to the point that you really need assistance. Good luck.
The only draw back is the annual income, if your husband makes what they consider too much that would be the only reason they would turn you down. You don't have to have a work history for SSI only SS. As long as you have medical evidence then you shouldn't worry. If they do turn you down get a lawyer that works on commission only if you start receiving SSI and thats just about your guarentee to start drawing SSI I only know because I am going thru the same thing as we speak. Don't give up you have a strong case.
Hi, yes you can get it, my husband works as well. however, for most it is not easy to get, and may take an appeal and possibly an appeal with an attorney to get. However don't let that fact scare you away. I believe close to 85% are turned down the first time, and the fact that your spouse works is realy not a factor. what is a factor, is how good the medical records are. I see besides the Lupus and fibro, you have some anxiety issues. You have never really worked outside of the home during your marrige, which may hurt, but hopefully, you worked at some point. That does play a factor. because the people deciding will see you are not loosing any income. I would however stress the fact that once the kids hit a certain age you had planned on returning to work. you also need to have immaculate medical records, whatever the doctors wrote or did not write and send in to the social security office is very important.

However I did write it above, the one area I see a problem with, is the fact that you havent worked. you can still get somthing if you are very ill, but the chances if your mild/ moderatly ill are not very ill. The more medical records you can produce to show the seriousness of the Lupus and Fibro the better chance you have, also if approved you do get money for minor children.
good luck
