Is the so-called "butterfly rash" common in all those afflicted with Lupus ? Not all people with lupus get the butterfly rash. I have systemic lupus with major organ involvement and have never gotten the rash. I forget the exact percentage but it is somewhere in the link below. Source(s): www.lupus.org Yes!!! I have the butterfly rash and have recently been diagnosed with Lopus. It was my complaining about my acne to my doctor that made him run the tests. It does not appear on every lupus patient. Lupus is an autoimmune disease, which means that the person's immune cells attack normal body cells. Other organ systems besides the skin can be affected, so not everyone with lupus gets the "butterfly rash." No. Some people have Lupus and never get the rash. Some people have the rash for a while and then it goes away. Some have the rash on the trunk of the body, but not the face. The worst case is when the disease attacks the internal organs, which can eventually cause organ failure. Lupus patients need to see a Doctor regularly, and follow the treatment plan exactly. There are support groups for Lupus patients in many areas plus Web support groups/discussion groups, etc. Unfortunately, Lupus can be difficult to diagnose and to treat. If you or someone you love has Lupus, my heart and prayers go out to you. Personal experience |
