How do you deal with lupus? |
My mom has lupus/fibromyalsia. How do you deal with the symptoms without depending on prescription drugs? What foods and natural things will help to the same job? Lupus is a serious disease. In some cases (as in mine) it can flare to the degree that it is life threatening. We don't live in a "natural" world. We have pollutants, chemicals and additives in almost everything we encounter. It's not natural for the body to destroy itself. Why would you think only natural things can fix it? Arsenic and hemlock are natural and they can kill you. If natural things could do the same job, would there be millions spent on research to find the cause, cure, and alleviate symptoms? Would there have been a huge international lupus conference in China this past May? Don't you think that researchers have looked at simpler things? Sure, all of us get frustrated with the medical establishment. But, they want us to get better too. Those of us who live successfully with lupus use ALL the tools at our disposal. I do take my placquenil to calm the immune system. I do take my chemol (Cellcept) because I think keeping my kidneys is a very good idea. I am finally off prednisone. I take NSAIDS when I need them. But, I practice yoga and meditation, get regular massage, rest when I need to, am primarily vegetarian and have developed a sensible regimen of supplements with the approval of my rheumatologist. If your mom had cancer, would you tell her to be natural and eat grass? No! You would use everything that you could to cure her and if she could not be cured, you would use every tool available to give her the best quality of life. Please take time to educate yourself about the potential dangers of lupus. Many of them are quite serious. Then, while you are on the link provided, go to the take action link and get everyone you know to email their representative and senators asking them to support the lupus REACH amendments. Be an activist for us. Source(s): www.lupus.org http://www.lupusdigest.com/ \o/ well, the treatments for lupus can be as varied and individual as the disease itself and may change over time. But common-sense measures, such as rest, protection from sunlight, exercise, not smoking and a healthy diet are important for everyone with lupus and learn to deal with stress. Many people with lupus find that stress can bring on symptoms of their disease. It's not possible to avoid stress, especially when living with a chronic illness, but you often can learn to cope with it constructively so that it doesn't take such a severe physical toll. Try various relaxation techniques such as yoga, meditation or deep breathing or consider working with a counselor who can help you learn to deal with stress and also take care with vaccines. Immunizations using killed vaccines don't seem to make lupus worse, but you should avoid live vaccines such as the intranasal flu vaccine. It's best to check with your doctor regarding all immunizations. Please read this website. It is very informative and may help answer your questions. get on the computer and put in lupus, you will get lots of answers |
