I am pregnant and I also have Lupus Disease and So does my boyfriend..? |
I am pregnant and I also have Lupus Disease and So does my boyfriend is there a chance that are baby will have it as well? THANKS! =) I hope you are seeing an obstetrician who specializes in high risk pregnancies. Although you may experience no problems whatsoever, it is a good idea to monitor your pregnancy very carefully. A small percentage of babies born to lupus patients will have neonatal lupus. It usually goes away in six months or so. A very very very few will have congenital heart block. That does not go away. 5% of people with lupus have a close relative (parent or sibling) with an autoimmune disease. Lupus is not inherited. There is, however, genetic predisposition to it. Researchers are not sure what turns the lupus on in people with the predisposition. Stress, sun, some viruses, some medications and contraceptive pills have all been implicated. Best wishes to you and your boyfriend.it usually skips a generation theres more of a chance that your childs children will get it Lupus Causes Genetic link As with other autoimmune diseases, people with lupus share some type of common genetic link. An identical twin has a 3- to 10-fold greater risk of getting lupus than a nonidentical twin. Also, first-degree relatives (mother, father, brother, sister) of people with lupus have an 8- to 9-fold increased risk of having lupus than the general public. http://www.emedicinehealth.com/lupus_sys... Yes, I quote Genetic counseling may be appropriate, as children of women with lupus have a 10% chance of developing lupus if female and 2% if male, while 20% of offspring overall will develop an autoimmune disorder of some type. http://www.answers.com/lupus?cat=health... |
