Can you have MS and Lupus at the same time? |
My mother has had MS for 15 years and now they think she has Lupus also. Is this even possible? Hi there. I have been through the wringer with the neurologists and rhuemotologists and apparently yes this is a possibility. Does your mom have a positive high ANA and Sed rate? Those are things that aren't part of MS. Although those two indicators could also mean another autoimmune process not only Lupus so hopefully there will be more investigation by her doctors. I have Mixed Connective Tissue Disease along with Myositis with Full Body Inclusion and Gerd and Reynauds. Does your mom present with Reynauds? Does she know any of her most recent blood test results? I am wondering if she has tested postive for high RNP Antibodies. Sometimes when our bodies are afflicted with one autoimmue process a couple more might jump one, but like I stated before it could be another process and not Lupus. I would need much more information before I could tell you more so the only thing I can say for sure is that yes it is possible, but highly unlikely. More likely for another autoimmune disorder to have jumped into the mix with MS. They are both auto-immune diseases. Yes, I think it could happen. Hope & pray she doesn't have both. God Bless her Yes. Unfortunately, having one autoimmune disease makes it MORE likely that you'll have a second (or third). It's just not fair. Yes, my mom also has MS and I have been researching information since she was officially diagnosed, and it is true, most people with MS will end up having to deal with other autoimmuine diseases. I will pray that your mom does not have Lupus too. I know this must be hard for you, stay strong. Lupus and multiple sclerosis are both autoimmune diseases. Autoimmune diseases rarely occur alone. We often have two or more. Yes she can have both. I have two people in my support group who do. The management is more complicated, of course, when you have more than one autoimmune. www.aarda.org American Autoimmune Related Disease Association www.lupus.org would think so . i have lupus heart dieseas dibetic copd tumors in my throat there is allkindsof sytemes with lupus headaces just hang in there lavern. |
