Is it possible to have Lupus, but still have normal lab results? |
Hello. For awhile now I have been expieriencing symptoms that almost match the symptoms of Lupus. I am 15 years old. My doctor did the lab work, and everything came back pretty unremarkable, although he thinks that Lupus is still a stong possibility. He is sending me to see a rhuematologist tomorow, to further evaluate me. Is it possible to have Lupus, but have it not show up in lab work? Any info is appreciated. Thanks! Yes it is possible, depending on disease activity at the moment. A diagnosis of lupus is based on labs AND medical history AND current symptoms. Rheumatologists are trained to make this diagnosis. Sounds like you have a good doc who is willing to refer you. Clearly, you are a very bright young person. There are a few reliable lupus sites. Try doing some reading at www.lupus.org. Go to your library and see if they have The Lupus Book by Dr. Wallace. It has everything you could ever want to know. Best wishes. |
